Sydney Showcase Sizzles

Sydney Showcase Sizzles

What a line up of speakers at the The Hilton Hotel on 22 June. The room was buzzing with learning and laughter. David Penglase opened our eyes to a new sales approach. Anh Do had the audience laughing one moment and tearing up the next. Kirsty Spraggon reminded us that we can have fun at work, and this = FURK . Afterburners captured our attention, Jet fighter pilots translating the world of combat and flying to business, excellent concept! After our break, Nigel Marsh authentically liberated the crowd with his humour and insight. Ron “ Rowdy” McLean took a look at the journey from average to awesome. Closing International speaker Tim Gard had us in tears of laughter – literally. (We have pictures to prove it! Click here to view the photos).

Melbourne Showcase Moments

Melbourne Showcase Moments

The Ovations team flew to Melbourne for the National Showcase held at the Novotel on Collins Hotel. What a way to start the day! We were spoilt with a delicious array of breakfast choices and four incredibly talented speakers. Penny Burke who is responsible for many iconic advertising campaigns shared her insight and wisdom for us to take back to our business. International and New Zealand speaker of the year Ngahihi Bidios commanded the stage and gave us goosebumps with his Haka! Ngahi inspired us by taking his Ancient Wisdom and giving us Modern Solutions. Anh Do had the audience in the palm of his hand instantly with his attitude, story, inspiration and humour, Anh has it all! Sam Cawthorn took us home with his amazing story of courage, bouncing back and a “surprise” acoustic, ‘We are Australian’ sing-a-long. Click here to view the photos.

The importance of 'searchability' by Dom Thurbon

One mantra that I like to repeat over and over when I speak to people about the power of social networking and web 2.0 is that 'if we all knew what we all knew, we'd be unstoppable.' In other words, one of the greatest limitations that most companies and individuals face when searching for information is that they don't know where to look, or who to ask, for information in the first place.

Social networks are invaluable tools for connecting people to other individuals who have the information that they need.

However, simply having social networks is not enough to make sure that we can find out 'what we all know.' There's one more prerequisite - the networks must be searchable. The reality is that it doesn't matter how connected to people you are if you don't know what information people in your network have at their fingertips. Unfortunately, while the vast majority of social networks can be searched for 'social' content (like interests, favorite bands and TV shows), very few can also be searched for expertise. But as companies increasingly embrace social media and everything it can offer, I believe that making people and their individual talents 'searchable' will be increasingly important.

The organisation of data into easy to navigate 'chunks' is so important, that people are now suggesting that functionality will form the basis of web 3.0. Exciting!

I stumbled across the following video recently that describes just how important searchability is, and what a huge role it will play in the future of the internet. It's really worth a watch! Click here to view.
